Yep, the plushies, merch and branded bags are getting packed up. The programmes have been printed. And I’ve started scribbling inane ramblings that will form some sort of presentation on the day. It is full steam ahead. The week or so after the conference is always a great time for reflection on the how: how did we do, did things work as we thought, can we do better, how was the feedback?
But right now, a few days out, is a good time for reflection on the
why. Why do we do this event each year. When we first launched it (launched for 2020, postponed until 2021) it was for two reasons:
- To bring together all the amazing, like-minded people that I regularly speak to, to help collaborate on ideas and help to evolve finance further, and
- Because there weren’t many other options out there for advisers.
The CISI and PFS conferences had lost some of their prior momentum and the only other options were intelliflo and the trade press ones. It felt like there was a real gap in the market to be bringing people back together and of course the post-pandemic era only increased that further.
However, if we look at our why now, the second point no longer stands. Since then, there has been a plethora of new annual conferences, from the Timeline extravaganza, to Fundment's inaugural event earlier this year. The PFS and CISI have scaled up and even Fintel have now launched a new one under their Owen James brand. It’s fair to say that advisers are not short of conferences to attend any more.
Which leaves it then to come back to the first point of our why - and the theme we are doubling down on this year which is the power of the collective.
We truly believe that working and collaborating together, sharing ideas, promoting finance and its importance, and an understanding of regulated advice to the wider world (as well as showcasing it as an incredible place to build a career), are more crucial to the profession than ever before.
And so, as we discuss the Transformation of finance, we’ll do it through the lens of the collective, and offer some tangible ways to ensure the future is a fantastic one for us all. Yes, there’ll be great speakers and delicious food and a few Verve tricks. But the measure of success, for me, will not be on the number of social media posts linked to the day (#VerveTransformation26 if you do want to share 😉) but on the subsequent impact we create and I for one am extremely excited to see that come to life.
So if you’re joining us on 8th September then thank you for taking the time out and I can’t wait to see you. And if you didn’t manage to get a ticket this year, fear not. While we’ll kick off our collective initiatives at the event, the ability to collaborate and be part of the movement will continue on far outside the day and we’ll share far and wide so that you too can be part of it.
You can find out more info below about the event, including the agenda and podcast bookings, as well as our musings on AI, some new discounts for clients and some techy stuff if you’re topping up your CPD 🤓
Finally, I know I’ve recommended it before but based on our new CFO (see below), celebrating my son somehow turning 10 tomorrow (sob) and our big company moment coming up, there can only be
one beverage being consumed by me over the next couple of weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend all!
