My views on Maddie's blog are not going to be remotely surprising to anyone; I've been banging on about this exact topic since 2016 when I was on maternity leave, and thinking about the challenges and blockers I had in Para-Sols at the time, and concluding that compliance was not only a business prevention unit for advisers, but for us as outsourced paraplanners too.
The bureaucracy, time wasting and, frankly, cost were just beyond frustrating and the kicker in the whole thing is that they were not adding any value to the client whatsoever. Quite the opposite most of the time. So I figured someone needed to do something about it, and my one-month old was mostly just asleep, so I charged ahead and launched Apricity!
Fast forward to now, compliance is part of Verve, it is underpinned by our own tech Dexteraβ’, we are able to offer competitive charges with zero tie ins and we are starting to make the traditional providers nervous. Which is good. As hopefully it'll force them to start pulling their own socks up and to start supporting advice firms, not just profiteering from them or terrifying them with tales of the big, bad FCA. This is the year it changes.
If you read the blog to the end you'll have seen we have a new whitepaper on this topic, with some help and guidance for firms. Click below to be one of the first to get your hands on it! You can check out our fresh new website at the same time too. You can also watch back the webinar from Tuesday alongside BareRock where we got their input from an insurance and FOS perspective on all matters compliance.
And because this is a diverse Eclipse and not only talking about compliance, there's also an embarrassingly useful blog from our Ali Wilson with a refresher on tax-advantaged plans, super important at this time of year and factoring in the latest budget changes. You are welcome π
Loads more to come from us this year, but we're going to round off a busy January with a team hike in the Lake District tomorrow which I am very much ready for!
Have a wonderful weekend all,
